While Wanda and I were enjoying a short-but-sweet marriage retreat at Camp Stonewall, we included a visit to Trough Creek State Park, James Creek PA in our itinerary. Two features especially of interest were the Rainbow Falls (a disappointment because of dry-dry weather that central PA was experiencing) and a Balanced Rock formation. This rock is perched at the brink of a cliff with a portion of its mass hanging over the edge and into "thin air." It almost appeared as if the two of us could push it over the edge and into Trough Creek far below. Not to be, of course!
Our family viewed and enjoyed the Balanced Rock at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs CO a number of years ago. Wanda and I think that this local attractionin the "back yard" of Camp Stonewall (well, about an hour travel-time), while not as large and certainly not as well known as its western USA counterpart, may be just as impressive and "view-worthy." You and yours may want to test our impression and check out the Balanced Rock at Trough Creek State Park yourselves sometime soon - maybe even while vacationing at this rustic getaway in the wilds of Mifflin County!
